1,587 children were charged over weapons and explosives (ABS, 2023-24) Nearly 400 stealing offences at one major shopping centre in 6 months (QPS, 2024-25) Nearly 90% of employees subjected to verbal abuse with more than half abusers being repeat offenders (Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association, 2023) Youth crime and violence at our local shopping centres is getting out of hand, and it’s a pressing issue that demands immediate attention. These once safe spaces for families and friends are increasingly becoming hotspots for troubling behavior, leaving shoppers feeling uneasy and vulnerable. The rise in theft, vandalism, and even physical altercations among young people not only disrupts the shopping experience but also poses a significant threat to community safety. Ignoring this trend will only allow it to escalate further. With support from Australian Security Company , you have the power to protect those in our shopping centres once again as a safe public space but it's imperative we take action before it's too late.
